Lighthouse Christian Academy's faculty and staff are well-trained godly men and women whose love for children and Classical education fill the classrooms every single day. 

  • Ms. Lisa Dixon, Headmaster

    Ms. Dixon joine Lighthouse Christian Academy in 2015 with more than twenty years of combined teaching and professional experience, including a prior tenure of more than five years as an LCA founding leader (2000), Board vice-chairperson (2001-05), and Headmaster (2002-06).  She is a graduate of Western Maryland College, with a Bachelor of Arts degree of dual majors in Political Science and History, and holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Maryland's School of Law, with which she practiced law for more than fifteen years.  Ms. Dixon is the proud mother of three children who attended LCA.

  • Mrs. Judy Shaffer, Kindergarten

    Mrs. Shaffer’s main goal in life is stated in Philippians 1:9-11, “that [her] love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that [she] may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.” She met her husband, Lloyd, at Washington Bible College, and acquired her Bachelor's of Religious Education degree through Chesapeake Bible College and Seminary. For 20 years she classically homeschooled her three children from preschool through high school graduation, directed two online chat rooms teaching and encouraging homeschooling mothers for 7 years, and administrated a homeschool oversight group for 8 years. For 7 years she worked for a Christian Satellite company broadcasting the gospel to the Middle East and North Africa. Mrs. Shaffer taught 1st and 2nd grades at another Christian school, but loves teaching Kindergarten at LCA!She enjoys the students and the hard work of teaching. She is working on her Masters of Religious Education degree. She keeps busy studying God’s Word, reading, cross-stitching, and gardening.

  • Mrs. Christine Wasnesky, First Grade

    Mrs. Wasnesky earned her Bachelor's of Science in Music with a concentration in Education and minor in French at Grove City College.  Before joining LCA, she taught for 5 years in public schools before her children were born, and then she returned to teaching in 2011. Mrs. Wasnesky joined LCA in 2015 and loves its unapologetic Christian worldview, the Classical methodology, and its desire to partner with families to raise godly students with joy. Mrs. Wasnesky's interests include crafts of all sorts, sewing, and home improvement projects. She has two children who attend Lighthouse Christian Academy.

  • Mrs. Joyce Mong, Second Grade

    Mrs. Mong earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Grove City College and has more than 15 years' experience in public, private, and homeschool education.  She has also had the opportunity to operate her own piano studio and encourage a love of the piano and a love of music in children.  She was introduced  to Classical education in 2002 and had the opportunity to teach in a Christian Classical school.   She took with her the love of the rigorous Classical approach and looks forward to teaching in a Christ-centered environment while training up young minds in the light of the Classical approach at LCA.

  • Ms. Ann Nichols, Third Grade

    Ms. Nichols is a graduate of Cedarville College with a B.A. in  Elementary Education and a minor in Biological Sciences. Ms. Nichols' teaching career began in 1990 as a Middle School science teacher at a Christian school for 143 students. Since then, she has tutored independently, homeschooled her oldest son through eighth grade, and has developed curriculum and taught for a Classical Christian Homeschool academy from 1999 to 2007. Ms. Nichols' two sons graduated from a classical school, and that experience gave her an inside look at the tremendous blessing of a classical Christian education.  Ms. Nichols enjoys music, 4-H, reading, and gardening. 

  • Ms. Daria Bennett, Fourth Grade, Lead Teacher

    Continuing to provide a Christ-centered focus to her students, Ms. Bennett returns for her seventh year as Lighthouse’s Christian Academy’s fourth grade teacher. With more than 10 years of educational experience, Ms. Bennett also serves as the Lead Teacher at Lighthouse Christian Academy. During her career, she has taught a variety of lower school subjects including Language Arts, Literature, History, Math, Science, and Bible.

  • Mrs. Lauren Goetz, Fifth Grade

    Mrs. Goetz is a graduate of High Point University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Goetz previously taught 6th grade English in North Carolina. As an LCA alumni, Mrs. Goetz knows the value of Classical education rooted in the Word of God and hopes to inspire and lead her students through the year as they begin to take on more responsibility and grow in their academics.

  • Ms. Deborah Scales, Sixth Grade Math

    Mrs. Scales, a native of Maryland, graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's Degree earning her certification as a K-12 art teacher, (k-12). She began teaching Art with Frederick County Public Schools. She began her dual career as an Artist and Art Educator in the Fiji Islands, where she resided for 25 years and emerged as a well- known South Pacific painter exhibiting in New Zealand and Australia. Ms. Scales served as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Visual Arts Department at The Fiji Institute Of Technology before returning to the United States in 2008. Back in Maryland, Deborah has taught Art with Anne Arundel Community College, the Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center, and the Academy of Art in Easton. During her service as an Adjunct Teacher with Talbot County Public Schools, Deborah has taught all content areas of the curriculum to all grades. She loves putting a creative spin on her teaching of literacy math, science, history, and interrelated Arts.

  • Ms. Abigail Williams, Latin and Algebra

    Ms. Williams is currently completing her Bachelor's degree in biology. She has a lengthy background in Latin through high school and college at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She feels extremely blessed to have the opportunity to teach at LCA. Ms. Williams enjoys reading science fiction, fantasy, and DC and Marvel comic books.

  • Mr. Dustin Carpenter, History, Logic, Theology

    Mr.  Carpenter is a graduate of The University of Baltimore with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. He is currently pursuing two Master's of Arts degrees and loves to read and learn as much as he can in the fields of Theology, History, Philosophy, and Literature. He is happily married to his beautiful wife, Mandy and has three amazing little girls, Lilly, Juliette and Emily. 

  • Mrs. Kathy Guerra, Literature and Writing

    Mrs. Guerra earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a major in English and a certificate in Secondary Education. After teaching in both public and private schools and working for a medical publishing company, she joined Lighthouse Christian Academy in 2013 as Marketing Director. Having experienced educational public and private teaching philosophies first hand, she found classical Christian education to be the most compelling means of educating children and has been committed to supporting it ever since. She has three children who have attended Lighthouse since Kindergarten. In her spare time, Mrs. Guerra enjoys traveling, reading, and scrapbooking.

  • Mrs. NancieMarie Lafferty, Seventh Grade Math

    Mrs. Lafferty received her undergraduate degree from University of Cincinnati and her Master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University.  Mrs. Lafferty has been teaching for almost twenty-five years, primarily in the field of special education.   Mrs. Lafferty is married and has three children.

  • Mrs. Carol Seitz, Art

    Mrs. Seitz earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a Maryland state-certified K-12 Art teacher and has taught art in Christian schools since 1990. She developed a Classical and Christian Art Curriculum that was published by Rockbridge Academy, a Classical school in Anne Arundel County. Mrs. Seitz takes a classical approach to art education and believes that all students may enjoy success in the discipline of drawing. She has found it beneficial to the students to include the history of art and certain master works in the art program. As the master artists were trained by copying works of master artists of their time, students are introduced to the concept of learning from recognized masters of the past.

  • Mrs. Marianne Graham

    Physical Education, Athletic Director

    Developing and educating our students on total health, Mrs. Graham brings more than 20 years of experience as a fitness professional and instructor, Mrs. Graham brings a unique understanding of nutrition and physical health to students of all ages. She has a daughter who is a student in the Logic level.

  • Mrs. Mary Hoffman, Music

    Mrs. Hoffman earned a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy and Music with a minor in Business from Hood College and continued her postgraduate studies in Early Childhood Music and Piano Pedagogy at Westminister Choir College in Princeton, NJ. In addition, Mrs. Hoffman was certified in and taught Kindermusik & Musikgarten courses for more than 10 years.Mrs. Hoffman's experience in Classical education from elementary through mid-high school has given her an appreciation and understanding of the importance of Classical education in today's world.  In addition to  operating her own piano studio for more than 29 years, she has been the youth choir director at All Hallows Episcopal Church and St James Parish, toured the Soviet Union singing with the Surrey Opera Co. of Blue Hill, ME, has more than 18 years' experience as Program Director of Henderson Harbor Water Sports Programs in upstate NY, was named the New York State Boating Educator of the year for 2016 by the National Association of Safe Boating Law Administrators, has been a certified New York State Safe Boating educator for 20 years, is an operating partner at Yacht Haven of Annapolis, an owner/operator Hazelnut Ridge Farm LLC, a Mary Kay consultant for more than 12 years, is a former Board member of Friends of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and is a former Board member Londontowne Public House. Both of Mrs. Hoffman's sons attended Lighthouse Christian Academy.

  • Mrs. Lanie Berger, Administrative Assistant

    Mrs. Berger joined LCA in 2013 with her two daughters who are students at LCA. Mrs. Berger formerly homeschooled her children and enjoys being a part of LCA's commitment to classical and Christian education.  In her spare time, she enjoys knitting and crocheting.
