Frequently asked questions

  • Where do I obtain uniforms?

Our plaid jumpers and kilts are obtained through Lands' End. Lands' End provides the Lighthouse Christian Academy plaid (Classic Navy Large Plaid) and other approved uniform styles via their shopping siteYou may also order by phone by calling 1-800-469-2222 (make sure to reference our Preferred School Number 900070079). We also offer a free uniform exchange. Parents bring what their child has outgrown and it becomes available to others who may need those items.  This is a great way to help each other out with the cost of uniforms.

  • When is the best time to enroll?

We offer rolling admission until the end of August, but to ensure enough time for application, testing, interviews, and appropriate placement, we suggest that you begin the enrollment process in February prior to fall enrollment.

  • Do you offer Before or After Care?

For an additional fee, we offer Homework Club to our families who need to pick students up after 3:15. Students are allowed 30-45 minutes of play time on the playground or in the gym. Students are given time to complete their homework and are provided a snack. Pickup is by 5:30 PM daily.

  • What is the maximum class size at Lighthouse?

Our classes are capped at 12 students. Our average class size is 10.

  • Is there any discount for enrolling multiple students?

Yes, if you review our tuition schedule, the tuition rate decreases as additional students are enrolled from the same family. We also offer financial aid to qualifying families. Ultimately, we want to make Lighthouse Christian Academy accessible to as many families as wish to be part of our school.

  • Do you follow the "Common Core" standards?  What about standardized testing?

No, we use a Classical methodology, which is based on the Trivium. In addition, because we are a private school and do not receive any state or federal funding, we do not administer the standardized tests that the state requires, such as the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) test or the Maryland School Assessment (MSA).
