Katie Matlack
Art

Starting this fall of 2026, Mrs. Matlack is delighted to use the practice of art to help LCA students develop eyes to see that heaven and earth declare the glory of God. During her last 12 years as a mother and home educator, she has been able to realize her lifelong dream of holistically integrating art into her own and her children's education, most recently teaching drawing and watercoloring in her homeschool co-op. She takes a scaffolding approach: drawing is like the abc's of art and that every person can learn to draw from an early age, building a skill like language that God has given us to communicate with each other. She also believes that art is not only a skill but a practice that forms the spirit of the artist. In a world where "art" has become cheap, she wants LCA kids to deeply experience the childlike joys of observation, imitation, and wonder so that no matter the skill level they achieve, they can always confidently glorify their Creator through art.

Prior to her homeschooling years, she worked at St. John's College, Annapolis, as the webmaster for the Communications Office, and before that she was a teacher at Okinawa Christian School International in Japan. She was born and raised in rural Oregon, and holds a B.A. in Politics with a minor in Japanese Language from Willamette University. She now lives in Chestertown, MD with her husband and three daughters.
